Three More Track and Field Athletes Advance to Quarterfinals on Day Two of West Regionals

This gives the Beach five total student-athletes in the quarterfinals the rest of the weekend.
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Long Beach State track and field was back in action for day two of the NCAA West Regionals. Ryley Fick, Rahni Turner, and Alex Heerink-van Breda all qualified for Saturday's quarterfinals to highlight the second day of competition.
Day Two Results
Competing in her first 800m NCAA race, Fick lined up in the sixth heat of the event posting a time of 2:06.71 to finish third. The time marks a new PR for the senior, improving on her second-fastest mark in program history. She was 21st overall on the afternoon, moving on to the quarterfinals on Saturday. She entered the week ranked 65th in the event.
Turner nearly broke her own school record on Thursday, running a time of 13.25 in the 100m Hurdles. Competing in the fourth flight, she earned one of the automatic qualifier spots with a third place finish. Her time placed her in 16th overall for the event improving her west rank by six spots.
In the final event with a Beach athlete in it, Heerink-van Breda raced in the fourth heat of the 400m Hurdles. Posting a time of 59.30, she finished fifth in her heat and 23rd overall to earn one of the final qualifying spots for the quarterfinals.
Hailey Fune also ran in the fourth flight of the 100m Hurdles with Turner. She finished sixth in the race with a time of 13.78 putting her at 38th overall after entering the meet ranked 47th in the region.
In the sprints, Kaitlyn Williams competed in the 100m. Running in the third of flight of the evening, she crossed the line in 11.79 seconds to finish eighth in the race. The senior improved her West ranking by four spots finishing 46th.
The day actually started on the field with Rori Denness-Lamont competing in the women's Javelin Throw. In her first NCAA meet of her first collegiate season, she posted a throw of 45.68m (149-10) on her first attempt. The throw put her at 16th overall, just two and a half feet shy of the final qualifying spot. It goes down as a plus-22 improvement in her West region ranking.
