
No. 10 Seed Long Beach State Men’s Golf Set for the Las Vegas Regional

The Beach will tee off at Bear’s Best Country Club on Monday, May 15 in the three-day NCAA Regional
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State Men's Golf will head to the Las Vegas Regional as the No. 10 seed. The three-day event, which will be held at Bear's Best Las Vegas, begins Monday, May 15 and will conclude on Wednesday, May 17.
The Las Vegas Regional will be hosted by UNLV and the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority. The top seed is No. 1 seed Arizona State, while No. 2 seed Stanford, No. 3 seed Virginia, No. 4 seed Oklahoma, and No. 5 seed Northwestern round out the top five. No. 6 seed East Tennessee State, No. 7 seed Cincinnati, No. 8 seed San Francisco, and No. 9 seed UNC Greensboro come in ahead of the Beach. Meanwhile, No. 11 seed Oregon State, No. 12 seed Davidson, No. 13 seed Kansas City, and No. 14 seed Lehigh come in behind LBSU.
Long Beach State will be making its fifth appearance in the NCAA Regionals after having seen postseason action in 2000, 2004, 2012, and 2021.
The Beach come into the Las Vegas Regional ranked 57th after having claimed two tournament titles this season under head coach Rob Murray who was named Big West Co-Coach of the Year in his first year at the helm. Under Murray, the Beach captured The Big West Championship with an 852 showing for 12-under par.
LBSU is led by No. 13 Ian Gilligan who has had a marvelous sophomore campaign on his way to being named Big West Golfer of the Year. The Reno, Nev., native has captured four individual titles, and has led the Beach to two team titles. On the season, Gilligan has posted eight Top 10 finishes, while averaging a 69.00 stroke average.
Rounding out the rest of the Long Beach State lineup at the Las Vegas Regional are Isaac Rodea, Jack Cantlay, Jaden Huggins, and Steven Deutsch.
Rodea is a senior who was just named to the All-Big West First Team. He owns a 72.10 stroke average on the year. His best showing of the season came at the Nick Watney Invitational where he fired a 68-69-66 for a 10-under 203 for a fifth-place finish. His highest finish was at The Big West Championships when he tied for fourth place after shooting a 4-under 212 on his way to being named to the All-Tournament Team.
Cantlay, who was named Big West Freshman of the Year, had an outstanding rookie season as he averaged a 72.69 stroke average. His best finish, a tie for third, came at the Lake Las Vegas Intercollegiate where he shot a 68-74-65 for a 9-under par 207 as Long Beach State's top finisher. In addition to being named Big West Freshman of the Year, Cantlay was also selected to the All-Big West Second Team.
Huggins, another freshman who turned in a solid rookie season, was a Big West Honorable Mention selection after posting a 73.17 stroke average this year. He turned in his best performance at the Nick Watney Invitational as he placed 15th with a 3-under par 210 performance after shooting 73-67-70.
Deutsch is a sophomore who is averaging a stroke average of 73.35. His top performance of the season came at the Lake Las Vegas Intercollegiate where he competed as an individual and finished tied for seventh with a 4-under par performance. He shot 70-73-69 for 212, with his third round 69 marking a season-low.
The low five teams and the low individual not on those teams, will advance to the finals. Team and individual medalist titles will be decided May 26-31 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.
