
Ian Gilligan in the Top 10 After Round One at the NCAA Las Vegas Regional

The Beach are shooting 3-under par as a team, while Gilligan is 6-under after the first round
LAS VEGAS – No. 13 Ian Gilligan is in the Top 10 with a 6-under par performance after one round of action at the NCAA Las Vegas Regional. He leads Long Beach State, which is currently in 12th place with a 3-under par showing.
Top seed and No. 4-ranked Arizona State is in first place with a 26-under par performance on the first day of competition. Rounding out the top three are No. 8 Stanford and No. 16 Virginia which are shooting 20-under and 19-under, respectively.
Gilligan had a solid opening round as the sophomore from Reno, Nev., birdied eight holes on his way to a 66 for 6-under par. He secured back-to-back birdies on the 12th and 13th holes as well as on the 17th and 18th holes to lead the Beach.
Freshman Jaden Huggins got off to a good start as he made an eagle on the 12th hole. He continued the first round and finished with three birdies as he shot a 71 for 1-under.
Jack Cantlay, another true freshman, finished the opening round with four birdies. He concluded the first round with a 1-over par 73.
Rounding out Long Beach State's lineup were Isaac Rodea and Steven Deutsch. Rodea also fired four birdies in the first round as he shot a 75 for 3-over. Deutsch is just one stroke behind Rodea with a 76 for 4-over as he recorded two birdies in the opening round.
The second round of the Las Vegas Regional will begin on Tuesday, May 16 at 7:30 a.m. Long Beach State will tee off on the back nine at 8:55 a.m. Fans can follow the action via GolfStat.com.
