Sophomore Ian Gilligan leads the Beach with an 8-under par performance as he sits in a tie for 14th place after two rounds of action

LAS VEGAS – The second round of the NCAA Las Vegas Regional was halted for nearly three hours due to lightening in the area. However, the tournament continued and Long Beach State managed to shave seven strokes off their score to remain in 12th place with a 13-under par showing.

Leading the way for the Beach was No. 13 Ian Gilligan who fired a 70 for 2-under par in the second round as he moves into a tie for 14th place. Gilligan is shooting 8-under over two rounds.

No. 8 Stanford climbed to the top of the leaderboard on the second day of action coming in at 42-under par. No. 4 Arizona State dropped to second place with a 38-under par performance, while No. 16 Virginia (033), No. 45 San Francisco (-31), and No. 28 Northwestern (-30) rounded out the Top 5.

Gilligan, a sophomore from Reno, Nev., started the second round strong with back-to-back birdies on his first two holes as he started on the back nine. He would finish the second round with half a dozen birdies, but a double bogey on his final hole would set him back to a 2-under finish on the day. Gilligan heads into the final round 8-under par and six strokes out of first.

Freshman Jaden Huggins turned in an excellent performance as he fired a 67 in the second round to move up 18 spots on the leaderboard. The rookie from Murrieta, Calif., finished the second round with six birdies and an eagle on the 12th hole. He is now tied for 24th with a 6-under par performance heading into the final round.

Isaac Rodea, Jack Cantlay, and Steven Deutsch round of the Beach's lineup in a three-way tie as they're all 2-over par. Rodea shot a 71 for 1-under in the second round to move up four spots, while Cantlay carded a 73 for 1-over par as he dropped seven spots on the leaderboard. Deutsch had a solid outing as he fired a 70 for 2-under to climb seven spots. He birdied three-straight holes (11, 12, and 13), before finishing out the round with two more birdies at holes 16 and 8.

The final round of the Las Vegas Regional will begin on Wednesday, May 17 at 7:30 a.m. Long Beach State will tee off at 8:55 a.m. on the back nine. Fans can follow all the action via GolfStat.com.
