Long Beach State Concludes Season at NCAA Las Vegas Regional with a 23-Under Par Performance

LAS VEGAS –
The Long Beach State Men's Golf team wrapped up the season with a solid showing at the NCAA Las Vegas Regional on Wednesday at Bear's Best Las Vegas. The Beach, which were a No. 10 seed in the tournament, finished in a tie for 10th place with Oregon State as both squads shot 23-under over three rounds.

No. 4 Arizona State won the Las Vegas Regional with a 59-under par performance, while No. 8 Stanford (-57), No. 16 Virginia (-49), No. 45 San Francisco (-45), and No. 33 East Tennessee State (-43) all finished in the Top 5 to advance to the NCAA Finals which run from May 26-31 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz. The Buccaneers claimed fifth place after defeating Northwestern -1 to +2 on the playoff.

Jonas Baumgartner from Oklahoma State was the low individual not on one of the five advancing teams, as he won the fourth playoff hole with a birdie to move onto the NCAA Finals.

The Beach shot 278 in their final round to move up two spots on the leaderboard. On the final day of competition, LBSU had four of its five golfers move up in the leaderboard as they guided the team to a 23-under par performance after shooting 285-278-278 for 841 over three rounds.

Long Beach State was led by No. 13 Ian Gilligan who finished in a tie for ninth place after shooting a 67 on the final day of action. The sophomore out of Reno, Nev., birdied five holes and sunk an eagle on the 17th hole to shoot 5-under on the day and 13-under for the tournament. He finished just two strokes shy of Baumgartner, the low individual who advanced to the NCAA Finals.

Freshman Jaden Huggins matched his 67 from the second round to fire a 205 for 11-under par for the tournament. The rookie's solid performance in the final round moved him up an impressive 10 spots on the leaderboard as he finished in a tie for 14th.

Jack Cantlay, also a true freshman, shaved two strokes off of his round one and two showings as he shot a 71 in the final round for a 217 1-over par performance. In the final round, Cantlay registered seven birdies and an eagle on the 17th hole. Like his teammates, Cantlay also moved up on the leaderboard as he jumped four spots on the final day.

Steven Deutsch concluded the tournament with a 73 as he shot 219 over three rounds for a 3-over par showing. He moved up one spot on the leaderboard on the final day.

Rounding out Long Beach State's lineup was senior Isaac Rodea who finished 7-over in the tournament. Rodea wraps up a four-year Beach career with a 72.84 stroke average to rank him fifth in the modern era LBSU Record Book. In his time at LBSU, Rodea posted seven Top 10 finishes and won one individual title.
