Beach Tennis Falls Short in Home Conference Match

LBSU comes up short in deciding match on court two.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State Women's Tennis fell short in a tightly contested battle against conference foe UC Santa Barbara 4-3, at Rhodes Tennis Center.
The dual match got off to a strong start after a stellar performance in doubles action by the Beach. Mathilde Tranberg and Hana Becirovic Novak earned a 6-2 victory over Solaya Han and Valentina Khrebtova on court three. Peppi Ramstedt and Rhona Cook continued their winning ways over UC Santa Barbara's (4-12, 4-1 Big West) Camille Kiss and Marta Gonzales on court two. In a 6-4 win, the duo of Ramstedt and Cook captured their seventh-straight doubles victory in a row while retaining an impressive 6-0 conference record.
Heading into singles action, Sarah Medik fought a tough opponent. No. 51 Amelia Honer captured a 6-1, 6-0 outing on court one.
On court six, Dondonay garnered Long Beach State's (7-9, 3-3 Big West) second point of the day by beating Solaya Han, 6-2, 6-2. With the win, she picked up her fifth-straight singles victory.
In a 7-5, 6-3 win, Marta Gonzales got the best of Masuda on court five to even the score at 2-2.
The Beach regained the lead after a tight second set between Cook and Kira Reuter. Cook eventually picked up the win by a score of 6-2, 7-5.
On courts two and four the Gauchos fought back once more to capture back-to-back wins and take home the conference victory. Both matches extended to three-sets but both Ramstedt and Tranberg fell short to capture the Beach's final point. Khrebtova took the match over Tranberg, 6-3, 1-6, 6-2. Shortly after court four's result, Kiss clinched the dual match securing her win against Ramstedt 6-7, 6-3, 6-2 and ending the dual match 4-3 in favor of the Gauchos.
The Beach return to action next week as they host their last home match of the season on Friday, April 14 to face CSUN the Rhodes Tennis Center.
