
Tennis Closes Home Schedule With Win Over CSUN

Long Beach State improves to 4-3 in Big West play with the win.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State Women's Tennis closed the home schedule at the Rhodes Tennis Center with a 5-2 win over CSUN on Friday. The Beach picked up their fourth conference win by taking the first three singles matches to secure their home victory after a strong start in doubles action.
Long Beach State (8-9, 4-3 Big West) won the doubles point to kick off the match. Peppi Ramstedt and Rhona Cook earned their eight-straight doubles victory defeating Sasha Turchak and Yuliia Zhytelna 6-3 on court two. The duo has continued their dominance in Big West play and have yet to lose a doubles conference match, improving to 8-0. For the year, the tandem improved their overall doubles record to 15-4. Clinching the doubles point, Mathilde Tranberg and Hana Becirovic Novak picked up a 6-3 win over Cindy Ung and Vitoria Solis on court three. With the win, the duo has earned back-to-back victories in their respective matches.
Getting into singles action, the Beach's resilient energy continued throughout each court. Capturing the second point of the day for Long Beach State, Dondonay recorded her sixth-straight singles victory by defeating CSUN's (14-5, 4-3 Big West) Emma Moratalla Sanz 6-1, 6-1 on court six.
Sarah Medik picked up a 6-3, 6-2 win over Jolene Coetzee on court one giving the Beach an advantageous 3-0 lead.
Securing LBSU's fourth conference victory of the year and fourth point of the day, Doga Akyurek won a tight first set, 7-5, before winning her second set 6-2 on court five against Tallia Harper.
Playing out the remainder of the match, CSUN earned two points in back-to-back wins on courts two and three. Turchak got the best of Ramstedt by a score of 6-4, 7-6, while Zhytelna won a tough three-set match over Cook, 2-6, 6-3, 7-5.
LBSU ended a strong note after Tranberg won a gritty three-set battle. Tranberg garnered the Beach's fifth and final point defeating Angela Ho, 6-0, 5-7, 7-6.
The Beach return to action next week to conclude their regular season when they take on UC Irvine, Thursday, April 20 and UC Davis, Saturday, April 22 on the road.
