Long Beach State Finishes Regular Season Competition

The Beach track and field team will set their sights on the Big West Championships.
IRVINE, Calif. – Long Beach State track and field has officially wrapped up their regular season of competition with day two of the Steve Scott Invitational in the books. On the day, they saw two program top five marks and four event victories.

The women's team had a tremendous day of competition in Irvine, headlined by Ryley Fick in the 800m. Claiming the top spot of the event, she ran a time of 2:07.40 for a new personal best. It also moves her into second fastest in LBSU history.
Hailey Fune posted the other top five mark in the 100m Hurdles. With a time of 13.59, she now ranks fifth on the all-time list to go along with her event victory.
Also on the track, both men's and women's 4x100m Relay teams enjoyed success. The men's quartet of Tristyn Flores, Malik Harness, Mekhi Mays, and Caleb Roberson combined for a time of 40.37 to claim the top spot. The women's team of Jayda Rustemoglu, Jaelyn Predium, Rahni Turner, and Kaitlyn Williams posted a 45.61 to finish as the runner-ups.
The field events were highlighted by the women's jumps group. Freshman Annie Murphy just missed out on a new PR in Pole Vault. Her mark of 3.91m (12-10) was a quarter of an inch below her lifetime best, but did give her the event victory.
Another freshman that stood out was Hannah Butler in High Jump. Clearing the bar at 1.61m (5-3.25), she tied her personal best and finished first among all collegiate competitors. Kayla Reynante competed as well, clearing the same height as she tied for fifth in the event.
Of the all the throwers in action, TJ Wiggins had the best finish as the runner-up in men's Discus. His mark of 54.30m (178-1) led all collegiate competitors and was just two inches shy of the top spot. Sebastian Coleman also competed, finishing third among the collegiate competitors with a mark of 52.95m (173-8).
On the women's side, Malia Talavou came out with a top three in Shot Put with a mark of 14.27m (46-10). She was also the top LBSU finisher in Discus with a throw of 46.71m (153-3) for a fourth place finish.
Long Beach State will now look forward to the Big West Championships across these next two weeks. Next week will mark the start as the multis championships take place on Friday and Saturday in Fullerton.
