Track and Field Begins Big West Championships with Multis Events This Weekend

Long Beach State will start the conference championship meet on Friday with the Decathlon and Heptathlon.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State will begin the Big West Championships this weekend in Fullerton with the Heptathlon and Decathlon. The women will look to defend their conference crown while the men look to return to the top for another title.

After closing out their regular season in Irvine last week with three top ten program marks and five event victories, the Beach has their sights set on the Big West Championships.
This weekend will only be the multis events and feature four women in the Heptathlon and three men in the Decathlon.
Earlier this season, Justice Fair and Sofia Bailey gave Long Beach State a sweep at the UC Riverside Spring Break Multis meet. Fair posted a total of 6,814 points that weekend for the top spot which ranks number two of all the Big West Decathlon competitors this season. Bailey mounted a day two comeback at UCR to finish with a winning 4,638 points which is fifth-best in the conference this season.
Hailey Fune (4,586 points) enters the weekend with the sixth highest total in the Big West. Alli Bryan (3,347 points) will also be in action as will Tayah DeSousa. DeSousa did not compete in the UCR Multis meet, but owns the eight-best indoor pentathlon mark in program history.
On the men's side, Milo Orona (6,166 points) and Temi Odugbola (5,811 points) will be competing as the trio of Beach men own the third through fifth place ranks among the league leaders.
The Decathlon will begin at noon in Fullerton on Friday with the Heptathlon getting underway at 12:30 p.m. Both events will close out at 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. respectively on Saturday.
