No. 7 Long Beach State Closes Regular Season with Pivotal Game Against UC Irvine

With a win, Long Beach State will clinch a share of the Big West regular season title.
LONG BEACH, Calif.—The women's water polo team will finish the regular season on the road at UC Irvine with a chance to claim a share of the Big West regular season title.
No. 7 Long Beach State (17-6, 5-1) will be facing No. 4 UC Irvine (16-6, 6-0) for the second time this season, having played the Anteaters in the Triton Invitational in February. UC Irvine came out on top in a hard-fought contest, 8-7. UC Irvine leads the overall matchup between the two teams 35-12.
The Beach enters Saturday's contest on a four-game winning streak, most recently taking down UC Davis in overtime. Freshman Elisa Portillo leads Long Beach State with 50 goals, while Rachael Kowalchick has 46, and Martina Cardona has 37. The defense has been led by Chelsea Oliver in goal who has collected 131 saves this season and has eight games in which she has recorded double digit saves.
UC Irvine will also look to continue their momentum, as they have won eight in a row including an upset over Hawai'i in their last game. The Anteaters are led by a pair of 40-goal scorers, as Elena Flynn and Nioka Thomas have 43 and 42 goals respectively.
