Dirtbags Rally Late but Fall Short in Series Opening Loss to CSUN

The bats were quiet most of the night in Friday’s 12-6 loss.
The Dirtbags bookended the game with runs in the first and ninth, but mustered up just four hits during the innings in between.
Rocco Peppi got the scoring started in the first with an RBI double down the left field line and eventually came in to score on an RBI groundout from Jack Hammond.
After that, the Matador bats came alive scoring three runs in the third, three in the fourth, five in the fifth, and one more in ninth. It resulted in Graham Osman's first loss and the first game the southpaw has surrendered more than three earned runs.
With two outs in the ninth, Long Beach State loaded the bases for Joey Walls Jr. The senior sent a missile to left-center off the top of the wall, missing a grand slam by inches. Two runs would come around to score to kickoff the late rally. Ty Borgogno stepped in next and singled into left field to plate two more.
The scoring would stop there as a flyout ended the ballgame with CSUN coming out on top 12-6.
Jake Rons was tremendous out of the bullpen, totaling four innings of one-run ball. The right-hander allowed just one run on four hits while striking out a career-high batters.
Long Beach State will look to bounce back in game two tomorrow. First pitch at 6 p.m.
