Track and Field to Host Pacific Coast Intercollegiate, Beach Invitational

This week, some of the best athletes from all over the country will make their way to the Jack Rose Track.

LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State track and field are set to host the prestigious Pacific Coast Intercollegiate and Beach Invitational this weekend as well as sending distance runners to the Bryan Clay Invitational.

The Beach is coming off a sweep of the Challenge Cup last Friday at UC Santa Barbara. It is the second consecutive year, they have won both men's and women's team titles and combined now own 32 of the 56 all-time cups (men: 22, women: 10).
 
Individually, they had 15 event winners with eight on the men's side and seven for the women. The headliner of all of them had to be Kaitlyn Williams. The captain ran an 11.49 to win the 100m and set a new Challenge Cup meet record. The time also goes as the fourth fastest in program history.
 
In the national rankings, Kash Powell continues to rank among the best at fifth fastest in the men's 800m Run. Rahni Turner and her four record breaking 100m Hurdle performances now ranks 19th in the nation. Ryley Fick is the third and final in the Top 25, sitting at number 21 in the 3000m Steeplechase.
 
Regionally, the Beach has 20 marks in the Top 10 led by the duo of Powell and Mohamed Mohammed ranking one-two in the men's 800m. In the field, Kyle Jankans leads the West in High Jump and Novye James leads in the Triple Jump. Eleven of those marks are also tops in the Big West.
 
The is year's Pacific Coast Intercollegiate features 63 teams headlined by 2023 NCAA Indoor Champion, Arkansas, as well as nationally ranked BYU. The field also includes the likes of Air Force, Duke, Iowa State, Michigan State, NAU, Washington, Wisconsin, Wyoming, and Big West foes Cal Poly, CSU Bakersfield, UC Irvine, and UC Santa Barbara.
 
In total, there are 1,275 athletes set to compete after nearly 2,000 entries including several international athletes and past Olympic and World Championship winners.
 
This year marks the 27th annual Beach Invitational and will be one of the biggest yet with 134 total teams/clubs in competition. Among them are nationally ranked BYU, Texas Tech, Iowa, USC, Miami, Michigan, and Oklahoma State. Fellow Big West institutions Cal Poly, CSU Bakersfield CSUN, and UC Irvine will also have student-athletes in competition.
 
With just shy of 3,000 entries, there are 1,719 athletes set to compete in this prestigious meet and will also feature some of the best international Olympic and World Champions.
