Long Beach State wrapped up another successful weekend of outdoor season.
STANFORD, Calif. – Long Beach State wrapped up their Northern California trip on Saturday competing on day two of the Stanford Invitational. The day consisted of 10 top five finishes, including a pair of event victories.
Results
The first win of the day came from the fastest 800m runner in the nation in Kash Powell. Running in heat one of six in Stanford, he crossed the line in 1:48.41 to claim the top spot beating out the likes of runners from some of the top Power 5 conferences in the country.
The other win came late in the day in men's Shot Put as Aiden Pastorian claimed the top spot on the podium. His throw of 16.64m (54-7.25) was three inches further of the runner-up in the collegiate competition. Teammate and Beach captain Sebastian Coleman was third in the event with a mark of 16.26m (53-4.25).
Coleman also competed in the men's Hammer Invite, finishing fourth with a throw of 62.10 (203-9).
Arguably even more notable than the two event wins was in the men's Triple Jump as both Novye James and Elijah Harris posted new lifetime bests and climbed in the NCAA rankings. James' 15.46m (50-8.75) now ranks first in the West Region and 15th nationally while Harris' 15.29m (50-2) moves him into fourth in the region and 23rd in the nation.
Also for the ninth-ranked men's team, Mekhi Mays ran a wind-aided 21-flat in the 200m for a runner-up finish as well as running a leg in the 4x100m Relay that saw the Beach finish fourth. Joining Mays in the relay was Caleb Roberson, Tristyn Flores, and Sydney Peal, combining for a 40.62 finish.
On the women's side, the 4x100m Relay was the best finish on Saturday. The quartet of Jayda Rustemoglu, Kaitlyn Williams, Rahni Turner, and Daryana Hall combined for a time of 45.35 and a third-place finish. The time also ranks tied for the seventh fastest in program history.
The 4x400m Relay was also a top five finish for the Beach as Hailey Danskin, Hall, Alex Heerink-van Breda, and Predium ran a 3:47.36 to finish fifth. It's the fastest 1600 relay time for LBSU this season.
In the distance realm, Ryley Fick followed up her 3000m Steeplechase record from yesterday with a solid run in the 800m race. Finishing fourth in the event, she posted a time of 2:09.81 for a new season best. It moves her into the top ten in the West Region for the season rankings.
Long Beach State will be back in action next week with a pair of one-day meets at UC Santa Barbara and UC San Diego.
