Beach Track and Field to Send Athletes to Three Meets This Weekend

LBSU will be at UCSB on Friday followed by UCSD and USC on Saturday.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State is scheduled to have student-athletes at three different meets this week as they head to UC Santa Barbara on Friday, then USC and UC San Diego on Saturday. Friday is the annual Challenge Cup that pits the Beach against Cal State Fullerton, UC Irvine, and this year's host UCSB.

Long Beach State had a successful weekend last time out at the Stanford Invitational headlined by Ryley Fick and Rahni Turner. The pair each broke their own school records in the 3000m Steeplechase and the 100m Hurdles, respectively. In total, the team posted seven new program top ten marks to go along with three event victories.
Looking at the national rankings, the men's 800m duo of Kash Powell (4th) and Mohammed Mohamed (14th) each sit in the top 15. Regionally, they own the top two spots.
Fick and Turner also rank in the nation's Top 25 with the distance leader sitting at 14 in the 3000m Steeplechase while the LBSU's top hurdler ranks number 18. They are third and fourth in their respective events in the West Region.
The team, as a whole, has 23 marks that currently rank in the West Region's top ten, with Kyle Jankans (men's High Jump) and Novye James (men's Triple Jump) joining Powell in a number one ranking.
Looking ahead, Friday's Challenge Cup gets going at 12 p.m. with the field events and 3 p.m. on the track. The Triton Invite on Saturday starts on the field at 9:30 a.m. and 10 a.m. on the track.The Ron & Sharlene Alicce Trojan Invitational will get started at 11 a.m.
