It has been a historic week for the Beach track and field team with the men's team earning a No. 9 national ranking by the USTFCCCA. It is the first time Long Beach State has earned a top ten ranking in program history.
Leading that charge is the reigning Big West Men's Track Athlete of the Week, Kash Powell. The Australia native ran a 1:47.57 in the 800m race at UCLA last weekend. The time is just five-hundredths of a second shy of the school record, fastest mark by a Big West athlete since 2014, and currently ranks as the number one time in all of NCAA.
In addition to Powell, the Beach saw six new program top ten times last week including Rahni Turner breaking her own school record in the women's 100m Hurdles. Her 13.45 is tops in the conference through the early going of the season.
Looking forward to Stanford, Long Beach State will face some of the top competitors in the country with the host Cardinal leading the charge along with Utah, Wisconsin, and Big West foes Cal State Fullerton, Hawaii, and UC Davis.
The Friday field events start with the men's Javelin at 9 a.m. while the track events start with the men's 5000m at 10:30 a.m. On Saturday, the women's Hammer gets the field action started at 10 a.m. and the collegiate Relays kicking things off around 1:30 p.m. on the track.
