LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) announced the 2023 Men's Water Polo All-America Teams, and three players from Long Beach State were recognized for their outstanding seasons.
Big West Freshman of the Year and leading scorer Robert Lopez Duart was named to the Second Team in his first collegiate season. Lopez Duart scored 87 goals, including a school-record-tying eight goals in a 12-10 win over No. 4 Stanford early in the season. The 87 goals from Lopez Duart were the second-most scored in one season in program history, only behind Kyle Kopp's 92 goals during the 1989 campaign. He becomes the 24th second-team All-American awardee in program history.
Long Beach State had two other first-team All-Big West honorees in addition to Lopez Duart, and both earned Honorable Mention All-America. Junior Evan Cain was second on the team with 60 goals and is in the program's Top 25 career goals with 128.
Also chosen was sophomore Bruno Chiappini, who was third on the team with 47 goals. Chiappini scored six season-high goals while leading Long Beach State to a 16-14 win over Loyola Marymount to close the regular season.
