Long Beach State picks up a point in the 0-0 tie.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State outshot Cal Poly 15 to 11, but couldn't find the critical strike in a 0-0 draw Thursday night with the Mustangs. After the tie, Long Beach State is now unbeaten in their last five games at George Allen Field.
Cal Poly (4-5-3, 2-1-1 Big West) keeper Mackenzie Samuel finished with seven saves on 15 shots in total from Long Beach State (6-5-3, 1-2-2 Big West), and turned aside Cherrie Cox and Elysia Laramie in the first 10 minutes of the contest as the Beach was on the front foot early.
A solid combination play looked to free Julia Moore in the 14th minute, but the chances slowed down for both sides from that point on in the first half. Zora Standifer stood tall in her biggest moment, pushing a shot from Kate Reedy onto the crossbar in the 36th minute, the best opportunity of the night from the Mustangs.
With a nearly even possession total on the night, most of the second half was played in the midfield until the Beach made a late push. Cox came free and nearly connected on a low cross to Amanda Perez in the 75th, and minutes later shaved the crossbar in the best shot of the night for LBSU in the 80th minute.
Long Beach State will hit the road for their next contest, facing CSUN on the road Sunday at 2 p.m. in Northridge. Live coverage of the Big West contest will be provided on ESPN+.
