Long Beach State matched the tournament record at The Clash at Boulder Creek, winning by 11 strokes with a 25-under par 839.
BOULDER CITY, Nev. – For the second tournament in a row, Long Beach State took home the team championship with a program record score, this time finishing The Clash at Boulder Creek in front of 18 other programs with a 25-under par score of 839.
At 25-under par, Long Beach State's 839 broke the program record the team set two weeks ago of 841 in Las Cruces, N.M., a score that ranks in the Top 60 all-time of team tournament records to par per the NCAA.
The Beach had three players finish in the Top 10 to hold off San Francisco and the hosts, Northern Arizona to claim the title, winning by 11 strokes ahead of the Dons. Sophomore Janae Leovao was the top finisher for the Beach, ending up on the podium with a tournament total of 7-under par after a final day 72.
One of Tuesday's best rounds for LBSU came from freshman Andee Avery, who was a model of consistency with a third-straight 2-under par 70 to finish the tournament one stroke behind Leovao with a 6-under par 210 in a tie for fifth overall.
After yesterday's record-setting 64, Jasmine Leovao also shot a two-under 70 on Tuesday, finishing the tournament in a tie for 10th place at 5-under par. Sophomore Madison Le and senior Angelina Kim each finished off The Clash at Boulder Creek with scores of 73, and shared a tie for 22nd overall as all five Beach golfers finished the tournament under par as the duo had a 54-hole score of 215, one-under par.
Long Beach State's 25-under par score represented a 16-stroke improvement on the team's score on the same course one season ago that saw the Beach as the runner-up to close the 2022 fall schedule.
Long Beach State will look to join a select group of NCAA programs with three consecutive tournament wins when the Beach returns to action this spring. The Beach will open up with a tri-dual match against CSUN and Cal State Bakersfield on Wednesday, January 31 before hosting The Beach Invitational, returning to Old Ranch Country Club in Seal Beach, Calif. on February 5-6.
