This will be the second time Long Beach State has faced each opponent this season.
LONG BEACH, Calif.— Following back-to-back wins, No. 8 Long Beach State will look to continue building momentum as they face No. 2 California and No. 3 Stanford this week. The first test will come on Thursday at 7 p.m. against Stanford, with the game against California to follow on Saturday at noon in Berkeley.
This will be the second time this season that Long Beach State has competed against each team, with the Beach completing an upset over Stanford earlier this season. The two teams faced off in the Triton Invitational in early September, with Long Beach State winning the game, 12-10. Robert Lopez Duart scored a career-high eight goals, which tied the school record for most goals in a single game.
Stanford (11-5, 2-2 MPSF) enters Thursday's contest following a big win over rival California, 9-8. The Cardinal are led by seniors Jackson Painter and Riley Pittman. Painter leads the team in scoring with 47 goals, while Pittman has 42 goals and 29 assists.
Long Beach State will then be tested again as they face No. 2 California on Saturday. The two teams competed against each other in last month's MPSF Invitational, with the Golden Bears coming out on top, 10-6. Lopez Duart once again led the Beach in scoring with three goals in that game.
California (13-3, 2-2 MPSF) will be looking to bounce back following the loss to Stanford last week. Max Casabella leads the Golden Bears with 38 goals, with Roberto Valera just behind with 35. On the defensive end, Adrian Weinberg has had a strong season in goal with 132 saves this season.
Streams for both games will be available at pac-12.com and live stats can be found at scores.6-8sports.com.
