Long Beach State will face UC Irvine for the third time this season on Friday.
LONG BEACH, Calif.—For the third time this season, No. 8 Long Beach State (13-7, 0-2) will face No. 9 UC Irvine (11-5, 1-0) in another edition of the Black and Blue Rivalry. Long Beach State has come out on top in the previous two matchups, including a sudden death victory in September.
After a big win over No. 5 Pepperdine last weekend, Long Beach State will look to carry momentum into Big West play. Freshman Robert Lopez Duart continues to lead the Long Beach State offense, and after six goals in the last two games, he is up to 57 this season. Returners Evan Cain and Brnuo Chiappini are also having big seasons for Long Beach State. Cain is up to 41 goals and 15 assists this season while Chiappini has 32 goals and 18 assists.
UC Irvine enters Friday's contest on a four-game winning streak, with their last loss coming against Long Beach State at last month's Big West-WCC Clash. The Anteater's attack is led by a pair of freshmen in Gage Verdegaal and Johann Thrall. Both have scored 29 goals so far this season, with Verdegaal also leading the team with 22 assists.
Friday's contest will begin at 6 p.m. at the Anteater Aquatics Complex and live stats will be available at theFOSH.net.
