Long Beach State hits the road for the first time this season heading to Massachusetts.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State is on the road for the first time of the 2022 season, heading to Cambridge, Mass. for a matchup with No. 20/22 ranked Harvard.

ABOUT LAST WEEK
• Long Beach State posted an undefeated week last week with a dominant 4-0 victory over Fresno State before playing to a 2-2 draw against the University of San Diego.
• Against the Bulldogs, it was all Beach as Lena Silano scored the game-winner on a PK in the 17th minute before Summer Laskey notched her first career brace before halftime. Cherrie Cox also registered her first career goal in the second half to cap off the first clean sheet of the season for Morgan Houston-Shepherd and the Beach.
• In the match with USD, Lena Silano notched the only first half goal with a left-footed finish in the 25th. The Toreros came out of halftime to take the lead with two goals in the first 15 minutes of the second half. With time winding down, Elysia Laramie sent a perfect cross into the box leading to a bicycle goal for Silano's first brace of the season.
CONFERENCE AND NATIONAL STAT RANKINGS
• The Beach scored over half their season's goals last week as they now own a conference leading 11 goals. That mark also ranks tied for 72nd in the nation. They also lead the Big West with 85 total shots and 38 shots on goal.
• With six assists last week, they have 11 for the season which is tied for the most in the league. They currently rank 52nd in the NCAA for total assists and 64th in assists per game.
• Arguably the most notable is the conference-leading 33 points, which is five more points than the second highest in the Big West. That mark also ranks 66th in the nation.
• The 11 goals to start the year is the most for the program since opening up the 2016 season with 11 goals.
SCHEDULING TOUGH
• Head Coach Mauricio Ingrassia is known for setting up a high quality schedule against some of the best teams in the country. That is no different for 2022 as WoSoIndependent.com had Long Beach State with a top ten toughest schedule in the nation.
• After playing then No.15 USC in week one, the Beach is scheduled for back-to-back ranked opponents with No. 20 Harvard this week and No. 10 Pepperdine next week before conference play begins.
PRESEASON NATIONAL HONORS
• After a historic 2021 campaign, Lena Silano has been named to United Soccer Coaches' preseason forwards watch list. She is one of just 41 athletes selected and one of just two from the Big West Conference.
• Felicia Jastre Hogberg is also garnering national attention earning a spot on Top Drawer Soccer's Preseason Freshman Best XI. The list acknowledges the best athletes at each position making her a top three freshman forward in the country.
THE SILANO SHOW
• After a historic 2021, Lena Silano has continued to lead the Beach to start the 2022 season. Through six matches, she owns a conference leading five goals and 11 points while also ranking tops in shots and shots on goal.
• She is the second fastest to five goals in program history reaching the mark in just six matches, one match shy of Nadia Link in 2010. Her brace on Sunday is fourth multi-goal effort of her career which is third most in program history.
• The senior has notched at least one point in each of the last four matches and at least one point in five of the six matches to begin the year. It is the longest streak of her career surpassing her three-match streak from Oct. 14-21 last season.
WEEKLY HONORS
• The undefeated week last week led to the Beach receiving their first weekly honors of the season, both from the Big West and nationally.
• Lena Silano scored three times in their two matches last week. Her first went down as the game-winner against Fresno State on a PK in the 17th minute. She then netted both LBSU goals against San Diego which included her bike to tie it in the 88th minute. She was named an Honorable Mention on Top Drawer Soccer's Team of the Week and the Big West Offensive Player of the Week.
• Cherrie Cox was named the Big West Freshman of the Week after totaling three points on the week. She notched the first goal of her collegiate career in the 4-0 victory over Fresno State after beating the final Bulldog defender in transition. She followed with an assist on the first goal of the match against San Diego.
A SUMMER BRACE
• Sophomore Summer Laskey has been a spark plug off the bench to open Long Beach State's season bringing fast-paced, high energy onto the pitch when she enters. A key contributor in that role, she is second on the team with three goals to go along with an assist for seven points in six games.
• In Thursday's thumping of Fresno State, she registered her first multi-goal performance with a pair of first half goals to give the Beach a 3-0 lead heading into halftime. It was also the first brace of the season for the team.
YBARRA DISHES
• Redshirt freshman Sara Ybarra unfortunately missed her true freshman season due to injury, but has found herself in the Beach midfield every game this year. Last week in the 4-0 win against Fresno, she recorded her first career points with a pair of assists.
• It is the first multi-assist for the Beach since Silano did it in the season opener last year. Prior to that, it hadn't happened since Oct. 24, 2019
GET EVERYONE INVOLVED
• Last year, the Beach totaled 58 points (goals/assists) on the season and had just 10 different student-athletes record at least one point. Through six matches, they have already matched player total with seven of the 10 registering multiple points.

• The Crimson offense has totaled 12 goals this season while owning a 0.525 SOG percentage. Totaling 34 points, they currently rank 21st in the nation with 8.5 points per game. Ainsley Ahmadian leads the team with eight points on four goals while Hannah Bebar is second with six points on one goal and four assists.
• On defense they have surrendered just two goals and 23 shots against them. Their keepers Hannah Gardner and Anna Karpenko have split the time in net and both have made five saves. Gardner is tied for the nation's lead in save percentage having yet to allow a goal past her.
• Historically, Long Beach State is 2-0 against Harvard. Their only two meetings were a 3-0 victory in 2008 and a 2-0 victory in 2009. The matchup in 2009 took place in Cambridge.
