LBSU Tennis Opens Fall Season at SDSU Tournament

Long Beach State will compete against the host San Diego State, plus CSUN, Cal State Fullerton, and the UTEP.
SAN DIEGO, Calif. -Â Long Beach State Women's Tennis takes the court for the first time in five months at the San Diego State Fall Classic, with action running Friday through Sunday. Long Beach State will compete against the host San Diego State, plus CSUN, Cal State Fullerton, and the UTEP.Â

Head Coach Jenny Hilt-Costello returns for her 24th season at the helm of the Beach and this season she has brought in a mixture of talented upperclassman and two freshmen. Â
"The first tournament is always exciting especially this year with six new players." said Hilt-Costello. Â
Two returning sophomores, Sheena Masuda and Peppi Ramstedt look to build from what they were able to accomplish last season. Masuda earned Big West Second Teams in doubles while Ramstedt earned a Big West Honorable Mention.Â
As Long Beach State begins their season this weekend in San Diego the Beach look towards building cohesion and momentum to a great season.Â
The format will feature four singles flights and two doubles flights. The Beach will have eight players competing this weekend. Â
In singles action, Justin Dondonay and Rhona Cook will compete in the red flight, with Peppi Ramstedt and Doga Akyurek competing in the black flights. Hana Becirovic Novak and Sheena Masuda will compete in the gray flights while Mathilde Tranberg and Sarah Medik will compete in the white flights. Â

As for doubles action, the two pairs competing in the red flights will be Masuda and Cook while Tranberg and Dondonay pair up together. Along with those two pairs, Ramstedt and Medik will team up while Becirovic Novak and Akyurek will compete during the black flights. Â

Play begins at 10 a.m. PT each day, with singles action up first followed by doubles play.Â
