Beach Claim Doubles Point, Win All Six Singles Matches in Dominant Showing
LONG BEACH, Calif. -- Long Beach State delivered a complete performance Wednesday afternoon at Rhodes Tennis Center, sweeping Seton Hall 7-0 to move to 6-6 on the season.
The Beach secured the doubles point in decisive fashion, sweeping all three courts.
On court one, Cecilia Costa and Paulina Franco earned a 6-3 victory to give Long Beach State the early edge. Daisy Carpenter and Diana De Simone followed with a 6-1 win on court three, clinching the doubles point. On court two, Pamela Badillo and Thea Jagare battled to a 7-5 win to complete the doubles sweep and start the Beach off with a 1-0 lead.
Long Beach State carried that momentum directly into singles play, winning all six sets and never relinquishing control.
Daisy Carpenter was first off the court at No. 6, cruising to a 6-0, 6-2 victory. Thea Jagare added a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 3 to extend the advantage, and Cecilia Costa followed at No. 2 with a 6-2, 7-5 result.
At No. 4, Paulina Franco delivered a steady 6-2, 6-4 performance to push the Beach closer to the shutout.
Pamela Badillo provided the lone three-set match of the afternoon at No. 5. After taking the opening set 6-1, she dropped the second 6-7(5) before responding with a 10-5 win in the deciding super tiebreak to secure the point.
Diana De Simone capped the afternoon on court one, closing out a 6-3, 7-5 victory to seal the 7-0 sweep.
Long Beach State Tennis is slated for back-to-back action this week, returning tomorrow, Thursday, March 5, to host Youngstown State. Doubles action is set to begin at 11 a.m.
