Chiappini, Morris each scored three goals as Long Beach State falls to No. 4 Pacific.
STANFORD, Calif. – After winning a pair of games earlier in the weekend to move into the fifth-place game at the MPSF Invite, No. 7 Long Beach State fell behind early against No. 4 Pacific and wasn't able to recover in a 13-10 defeat to the Tigers.
Pacific (13-2) grabbed the early momentum Sunday after the contest had been delayed due to a power outage on the Stanford campus. The Tigers scored the first two goals of the day. Bruno Chiappini pulled back a goal with just over three minutes remaining in the first quarter.
The Tigers scored the next three goals to open up a 5-1 lead, and ultimately controlled the second quarter, outscoring Long Beach State 6-2 in the period to take a 10-3 lead into halftime. The Beach held even in the third, matching the Pacific output with two goals from Matt Morris and one from Chiappini, but still had much to do to complete the rally.
Long Beach State scored four unanswered in the fourth quarter to try and mount a comeback, but the damage was done as the Beach finished the weekend at the MPSF record with a 2-2 record in sixth place at the tournament.
Long Beach State will compete in another tournament next weekend, playing two games at the Gary Troyer Tournament on Saturday, October 1. The Beach will first face Concordia in Claremont before shifting to Pomona to face Fresno Pacific.
