ABOUT LAST WEEK
• Long Beach State had just one match last week as they flew across the country to Cambridge, Mass. to take on #20/22 Harvard for their first road contest of the season.
• The Crimson would score early and hold their lead as the Beach recorded just four shots on the night. Their best look came in the 80th minute, but Lena Silano was knocked down from behind in the box and nothing was called as Harvard reclaimed possession.
Morgan Houston-Shepherd finished one save shy of her career-best, totaling nine for the night. However, Harvard would come out on top 2-0.

CONFERENCE AND NATIONAL STAT RANKINGS
• Despite being shutout last week, the Beach is still in the top three for goals, assists, and total points. Their 11 assists on the season currently ranks 78th in the nation with a 1.57 assists per game that ranks 85th. They also own a conference-leading 89 shots and 40 shots on goal.
• Individually, Lena Silano ranks tops in the Big West in shots, shots on goal, and is tied for the most goals as well. Her five goals this season ranks 24th in the nation.

CONFERENCE PLAY IS HERE
• The Beach officially open up their Big West schedule this weekend, hosting UC Riverside on Sunday night.
• Since 1998 when the program restarted, they are 13-7-3 in conference openers and 7-4-2 when playing at home. They are currently riding a six-match unbeaten streak, going 4-0-2 since the 2015 season.
• They have only faced UCR once to start their conference schedule back in 2012 with a 5-1 victory on the road.

SCHEDULING TOUGH
• Head Coach Mauricio Ingrassia is known for setting up a high quality schedule against some of the best teams in the country. That is no different for 2022 as WoSoIndependent.com had Long Beach State with a top ten toughest schedule in the nation.
• The Beach have already faced two ranked teams with then-No. 15 USC in week one and No. 20 Harvard last week. While they were not ranked when the Beach faced them, Washington has also entered the Top 25. And now they are set for a Top 10 opponent in Pepperdine on Thursday.

PRESEASON NATIONAL HONORS
• After a historic 2021 campaign, Lena Silano has been named to United Soccer Coaches' preseason forwards watch list. She is one of just 41 athletes selected and one of just two from the Big West Conference.
Felicia Jastre Hogberg is also garnering national attention earning a spot on Top Drawer Soccer's Preseason Freshman Best XI. The list acknowledges the best athletes at each position making her a top three freshman forward in the country.

THE SILANO SHOW
Lena Silano has continued to lead the Beach to start the 2022 season. Through seven matches, she owns five goals and 11 points to lead the team and rank among the tops in the conference.
• She is the second fastest to five goals in program history reaching the mark in just six matches, one match shy of Nadia Link in 2010. Her brace against San Diego is the fourth multi-goal effort of her career, the third most in program history.
• The senior has notched at least one point in five of the seven matches to begin the year and her stretch of four consecutive from Aug. 25 to Sep. 4 was the longest streak of her career surpassing her three-match streak from Oct. 14-21 last season.

A SUMMER BRACE
• Sophomore Summer Laskey has been a spark plug off the bench to open Long Beach State's season bringing fast-paced, high energy onto the pitch when she enters. A key contributor in that role, she is second on the team with three goals to go along with an assist for seven points in six games.
• In Thursday's thumping of Fresno State, she registered her first multi-goal performance with a pair of first half goals to give the Beach a 3-0 lead heading into halftime. It was also the first brace of the season for the team.

YBARRA DISHES
• Redshirt freshman Sara Ybarra unfortunately missed her true freshman season due to injury, but has found herself in the Beach midfield every game this year. In the team's 4-0 win against Fresno, she recorded her first career points with a pair of assists.
• It is the first multi-assist effort for the Beach since the season opener against CSUN last year. Prior to that, it had not happened since Oct. 24, 2019.

GET EVERYONE INVOLVED
• Last year, the Beach totaled 58 points (goals+assists) on the season and had just 10 different student-athletes record at least one point. Through seven matches, they have already matched the player total with seven of the 10 registering multiple points.
Lena Silano leads the way with 11 on the season followed by Summer Laskey's seven. The freshmen duo of Felicia Jastre Hogberg and Cherrie Cox are tied for third most with three each.

SCOUTING THE WAVES
• Pepperdine enters the week tied for the number nine ranking according to the United Soccer Coaches and the number 16 team according to Top Drawer Soccer. They remain unbeaten with a 5-0-2 record and coming off a 2-0 victory at Arizona this past Sunday.
• As a team, they are outscoring their opponents 21-3 thus far with five shutouts in seven games. They are averaging 20 shots per game with a 0.471 shot on goal percentage. Carlee Giammona paces them with five goals and two assists for a team-leading 12 total points.
• Defensively, they are allowing just 4.1 shots per game and own a 0.813 save percentage in goal. Ellie Sommers has spent the most time in net, totaling 400 minutes and recording nine saves.
• Historically, the Beach is 3-5 against Pepperdine, but have won the last three meetings including last year's matchup when the Waves were ranked number eight. It was the first win over a top ten team since the 2015 season.

SCOUTING THE HIGHLANDERS
• UC Riverside currently sits in fifth in the Big West standings with a 2-2-3 record coming off a pair of ties last week with California Baptist and New Mexico.
• The Highlanders currently lead the conference in goals with 14 and their 36 total team points is tied for the top spot. Alexandra Hargrave leads the way with five goals, tied with Lena Silano for most in the Big West, while adding two assists as well.
• Defensivley, UCR has been outshot 80-69 in their seven games. Their keepers own a 0.689 save percentage led by Caela Kaio who has seen the bulk of the minutes and owns 23 saves.
• The Beach leads the all-time series 10-6-6 and has won the last two meetings at George Allen Field. Last year's contest resulted in a scoreless draw where LBSU outshot UCR 12-10.
