Women’s Soccer Shutout by No. 9 Pepperdine in Non-Conference Finale

LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State suffered a 2-0 shutout loss to No. 9 Pepperdine on Thursday night to end their non-conference schedule. It moves their record to 1-4-3 heading into Big West play.
The Beach recorded the first shot on goal of the match from Cherrie Cox in the 12th minute as they got off to an aggressive start. However, the Waves found the back of the net first with a goal at the end of the 16th minute.
It did not take long for them to strike again with their second goal in the 24th minute. Both Pepperdine goals came off Beach turnovers on their own half of the field.
LBSU stayed aggressive to close out the half, but found themselves behind a pair at the break.
The second half was a hard-fought 45 minutes as both teams went back-and-forth. The Beach had some really good looks, but the Waves' keeper made good saves on a Lena Silano shot in the 67th minute and another in the 83rd on a shot from Alyssa Reyes.
The Beach totaled nine shots on the night with three on target but unfortunately, none found the back of the net as they fell 2-0 for the second consecutive match.
The Beach will begin conference play on Sunday as they host UC Riverside. Kickoff will be at 6:00 p.m. live on ESPN+.
