Long Beach State adds four transfers and two freshman for the upcoming season
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State Women's Tennis Head Coach Jenny Hilt-Costello has announced the addition of six new arrivals for the 2022-23 season. A mix of four transfers and two freshmen student-athletes, Beach Tennis looks to reload the roster in pursuit of its 16th Big West Conference Title.
"I am excited to bring a fresh mix of experience and desire to the squad," said Hilt-Costello. "Our new additions are coming to Long Beach seeking bigger challenges and will bring a high level of determination that fits our long time team culture."
Doga Akyurek
Fr. | 5-7 | Izmir, Turkey
Akyurek comes to Beach Tennis as a freshman having reached a career high WTA/ITF ranking of No. 489 in 2018. She owns a UTR career high of 9.8.
Hana Becirovic Novak
Fr. | 5-8 | Maribor, Slovenia
Becirovic Novak has achieved a career UTR high of 9.15 and an ITF ranking of 1398. The southpaw has played in limited tournaments this year as she focused on completing her education. However, she had a very competitive match in Slovenian National Indoors last December against the current University of Nebraska No. 1 player.
Rhona Cook
Jr. | 6-0 | Chester, UK | Campbell University
Cook arrives at the Beach after having played No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles for Campbell in the 2022 season. The lefty was a First-Team Big South All-Conference doubles selection and singles selection last season. As a junior, Cook was ranked No. 23 in the GB 18U rankings with an LTA 2.1 rating. She owns a career high UTR of 9.33.
Justine Dondonay
Jr. | 5-2 | Santa Clarita, Calif. | West Point
Dondonay joins Long Beach State after a successful 20-3 record in her first two season for Army playing in the No. 2-5 positions. Dondonay posted Army's third point on the way to winning the Patriot League Championship match, earning the Black Knights an NCAA berth. A graduate of Golden Valley High School, Dondonay was a CIF Semifinalist, High School All-American and a 5-star rated junior reaching No. 70 in the rankings. She boasts a career high UTR of 10.0.
Sarah Medik
Jr. | 5-7 | Dornbirn, Austria | Southern Miss
Medik comes to Long Beach with two years of eligibility remaining after transferring from Southern Miss. During her three seasons at Southern Miss, she primarily played at No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles. She posted a nationally ranked doubles win over No. 39 pair from Mississippi State last season. She owns a career high UTR of 9.41.
Mathilde Tranberg
Jr. | 5-10 | Horsholm, Denmark | Coastal Carolina
Tranberg joins the Beach as a junior after having played two seasons at Coastal Carolina. She played primarily at No. 1 and No. 2 in both singles and doubles. As a junior, she was ranked No. 17 in the Denmark junior rankings where she won the U14 and U16 national championships. She was also runner-up in the U18 championship. She owns a career high UTR of 10.23.
