Long Beach State supplements with three new big men and a point guard.

LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State has signed three junior college transfers and an impact high school center as the team supplements the existing core to help defend the Big West title next season.

Tone Hunter, 6-1, Las Vegas, Nev.
Garden City CC

Tone Hunter Signed

Long Beach State will add a point guard as part of the incoming class, as Tone Hunter comes to the Beach with three seasons of eligibility remaining after one year at Garden City CC. Leading Garden City to a 22-10 overall record, while leading the team in scoring at 17.8 points per game. Hunter also led the Broncbusters in assists at 4.0 per game while putting up a 1.2 assist to turnover ratio. He was named the League Freshman of the Year for his play last season, with a highlight game coming against Pratt CC where Hunter finished with 27 points, eight assists and seven rebounds.

Monson on Hunter:
"Tone gives us another guard that can push the pace early in the clock for us, create for others and for himself. His athleticism also gives us another defender who can pick up full court and be disruptive on the defensive end. Our staff has had a relationship with Tone for several years, and we like how much he has grown as a player, student and person."

Joyce Shaumba Ngoyi, 6-10, Kinshasha, DR Congo
Sunrise Christian Academy

Shaumba Ngoyi Signed

Bringing in a high school big man, Shaumba Ngoyi hails from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and comes in with an impressive frame of 6-10, 240 pounds after finishing his prep career at Sunrise Christian Academy. A defensive-minded player, Ngoyi has earned a reputation as a strong paint defender with a high motor.
Monson on Ngoyi:
"Shaumba gives us a young big man that we can build around. His motor and ability to play hard separate him from most freshman. We love his energy at both ends of the court, and with his work ethic we believe he can come in and not only help us immediately, and will positively impact the future of our program. He plays with a physicality and passion for the game that is contagious."

Chayce Polynice, 6-11, Van Nuys, Calif.
College of Southern Idaho

Chayce Polynice Signed

Continuing to strengthen the front court, the Beach has received a commitment from Chayce Polynice of the College of Southern Idaho. A starter for the last two seasons at CSI, Polynice helped the Golden Eagles reach the NJCAA National Tournament last season, averaging 10.3 points and 6.5 rebounds per game while leading the team with 44 blocked shots in 32 games as CSI finished with a 24-9 record last season. A Southern California native, Polynice averaged 13.5 points, 16.0 rebounds and 2.4 blocks per game at Grant High School on the way to being named the East Valley League Player of the Year as a senior. Polynice is the son of 18-year NBA veteran Olden Polynice.

Monson on Polynice:
"Chayce comes to us with all the physical tools to be an impact player for us. We love his versatility, as he can play both inside and out, and can guard multiple positions on the defensive end. Chayce did not begin playing basketball competitively until he entered high school, and we feel his best basketball is ahead of him."

Amari Stroud, 6-10, Fresno, Calif.
Hancock CC

Another junior big man has committed to join the Beach in Amari Stroud. Stroud most recently played at Hancock CC, where he averaged a double-double at 16.6 points and 10.0 rebounds per game, leading the team in both categories as Hancock finished the season with a 17-10 record. Finishing the season with eight double-doubles, Stroud also earned first team all-conference after his only season at Hancock. Originally committed to Iona, Stroud started his career with two years at Chico State after earning league MVP honors at Sunnyside High School in Fresno, and brings plenty of experience as a newcomer to the Beach.

Monson on Stroud:
"Amari is another versatile big man that can play multiple positions on offense and guard inside and out on the defensive end. He has a great offensive package, and fits right into our philosophy of playing versatile players and not worrying about positions. Amari can score at all three levels, and is another player we think will continue to improve as he gets stronger and comfortable at the Division I level."
