Long Beach State suffered a 12-2 loss on Friday night to the first place Gauchos

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Long Beach State (15-21, 5-8 Big West) saw their struggles continue on Friday night, falling to No. 13 UC Santa Barbara (25-9, 14-2 Big West) in the series opener. The Dirtbags have now lost seven consecutive games.
 
After a scoreless first innings for both sides, the first place Gauchos put up six runs in the bottom of the second to open up the scoring. They added three more in the fourth before the Dirtbags could come up with a response.
 
Leading off the fifth inning, Chase Luttrell connected for a solo home run to right field putting LBSU on the board. It marks his team-leading seventh of the season and gives him 16 for his career, marking the most career homers for a Dirtbags since Jason Corder hit 20 in 2007-08.
 
Long Beach State tacked on another run in the fifth courtesy of a squeeze play by Connor Burns to score Peyton Schulze.
 
The Dirtbags managed just one more baserunner after scoring their two runs in the fifth. UCSB would go on to score five more runs and take the series opener 14-2.
 
Long Beach State will look to end their losing streak tomorrow afternoon in game two of the series. First pitch in Santa Barbara will be at 2:00 p.m.
