Another Long Beach State record was broken on Saturday with Rahni Turner taking over the top spot in the women’s 100m Hurdles.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – On the second and final day of the prestigious Beach Invitational, Long Beach State celebrated their seniors and Rahni Turner celebrated a new school record.
Final Results
In the women's 100m Hurdles race, Turner posted a lifetime-best mark of 13.48 surpassing her previous best 12 one-hundredths of a second. That time also moves her into the number one spot in Long Beach State's record beating Le'Gretta Hinds' record by one one-hundredths of a second. The record had previously been untouched for 28 years with Hinds setting it back in 1994.
Another program top ten mark was set on Friday as Alec Jones had a career-best effort in the men's Discus. Already owning a top ten throw entering the day, the senior launched the discus 59.13m (194) to move into fifth on the all-time list. He finished second in the event just ahead of teammate Charlie Vernoy, who posted a throw of 57.61m (189).
In the jumps, Crystal Washington and Jason Smith continued their runs of success. Washington claimed another women's Triple Jump victory with a mark of 12.81m (42-0.5), just two inches shy of her program record, while Smith won the men's Long Jump with a new season-best jump of 7.79m (25-6.5) for the win.
The Beach also had several top ten finishes by athletes out on the track on Friday. In the men's 800m, Mohammed Mohamed ran just shy of his career-best with a time of 1:49.17 to finish third in the event. In the men's 200m, Mekhi Mays posted a personal best time of 21.24 to finish fourth. Joseph Anderson crossed the line in seventh in the men's 110m Hurdles, posting a time of 14.10.
