Dirtbags Drop Midweek, 6-1, to California Baptist

LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State (15-16) suffered a loss in their midweek contest with California Baptist (22-9) on Tuesday night. The Dirtbags could not respond to an early deficit, ultimately suffering a 6-1 defeat.
The Lancers got their offense going early, rattling off five hits for three runs in the top half of the second. They added one more in the fifth on a home run and two more in the seventh before the Dirtbags could respond.
The lone Long Beach State run came in the bottom half of the seventh as Chase Luttrell singled to center driving in Sebastian Murillo.
Overall, the 'Bags left 10 runners on base on the night. It is the 14th time they have left 10-or more stranded in a game.
Individually, the heart of the order all recorded multi-hit games. Luttrell went 2-for-4 with the RBI single, while Jonathon Long and Rocco Peppi also went 2-for-4 in the loss.
The Dirtbags have their Big West bye-week this weekend as they will head up to Corvallis, Ore. to faceoff with No. 2 ranked Oregon State. The series will be played Thursday through Saturday.
