Beach Women’s Hoops Defeats Cal State Fullerton Behind Strong Showing from Jasmine Hardy

Jasmine Hardy makes six three-pointers and scores 22 points in the Beach’s victory over the Titans

FULLERTON, Calif. – Jasmine Hardy scored 22 points to lead Long Beach State to a 63-53 victory over Cal State Fullerton on Tuesday night at Titan Gym.
Long Beach State (16-3, 9-2 Big West) has now won their last three-straight contests and six of the last seven, while Cal State Fullerton (8-12, 3-7 Big West) has dropped three in a row.
The Beach were led by the sharp-shooting Hardy who connected on 8-of-13 field goals to shoot 61.5-percent from the field. Six of her eight field goals came from behind the arc as she shot 66.7-percent from long distance en route to marking her third career 20-plus point game. Additionally, Hardy contributed four assists, three rebounds, and three steals on the night.
Senior forward Maddi Utti recorded her 13th double-figure performance of the season as she finished the game with 10 points, eight boards, three steals, and two assists. Meanwhile, Justina King and Kianna Hamilton-Fisher each added nine points. King also led the way with eight assists to go along with three steals.
As a team, the Beach shot 43.1-percent from the field as they used an early 9-0 run to take a 9-2 lead over the Titans. From that point, Long Beach State never trailed as the Beach led 14-11 at the end of the first quarter and 32-20 at the half.
Cal State Fullerton began chipping away at LBSU's lead in the third quarter and managed to make it a two-possession game (39-33) with 3:32 left on the clock. But Hardy stepped up and drained two threes within 50 seconds to put the Beach back up by double digits (45-35) before LBSU took a 50-38 lead into the fourth quarter.
In the final 10 minutes of regulation, Long Beach State led by as many as 20 points (61-41) with 3:14 remaining after Hamilton-Fisher sunk both free throws. Fullerton chipped away again, but was only able to make it a 10-point game (63-53) by the time the clock expired.
The Titans' Lily Wahienekapu was the team's leading scorer with 19 points, while Gabi Vidmar added 10 points. Ashley Lewis was one point shy of a double-double as she finished the game with 10 rebounds and nine points.
Long Beach will be back in action on Saturday, February 12 when the Beach host Hawaii at 4 p.m. at the Walter Pyramid. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
