Washington Tops Own School Record, Beach Set Nine Top Ten Marks

Long Beach State had another record setting day at the New Mexico Collegiate Classic.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. –The Long Beach State track and field team closed out the weekend with another record breaking day at the New Mexico Collegiate Classic. Led by Crystal Washington beating her own school record, the Beach set nine more top ten marks totaling 16 for the entire weekend.

Washington broke the previous school record in the women's Triple Jump at their opening weekend in Colorado. The mark lasted two weeks as the senior captain launched herself 12.72m (41'8.25") on Saturday to push her program record even higher.
 
The women track athletes had a phenomenal day as well led by Ryley Fick. The junior posted her second top ten mark of the weekend, moving into second all-time for the women's mile. Her time of 4.53.06aa is a new lifetime-best and gave her a second place finish.
 
In the women's 400m Run, the duo of LeNaya Griffin and Natalie Tolento each put their names in the top ten. Griffin's time of 56.04aa is the third fastest in program history, while Tolento's 56.72aa is sixth all-time.
 
The pair of Rahni Turner and Hailey Fune gave the Beach women two more top ten marks on the day. Turner improved on her fourth fastest mark in the 60m Hurdle rankings with an 8.62aa time while Fune went 8.90aa to move into tenth all-time.
 
The men's distance runners brought home three top ten marks of their own and picked up three victories in the process.
 
Michael Phillips won the Mile with a 4:06.67aa moving into second all-time in his 2022 debut. Freshman Alex Kalmar picked up his second 800m win of the year with a 1:52.84aa, the seventh fastest mark of all-time. Lastly, Raymon Ornelas moved into eighth all-time with a winning time of 8:31.08aa in the 3000m.
 
Anitha Graves had a great run in the women's 800m Run with a 2:15.09 to finish third for the event. The time is just shy of her lifetime-best which ranks sixth in LBSU history. Brieanna Tafoya was not far behind Graves in the event, finishing fifth with a time of 2:16.62aa which is just two-tenths of a second shy of tenth all-time.
 
After a stellar debut last weekend, Joseph Anderson posted an 8.04 in the 60m Hurdles to qualify for the final. There, he finished seventh overall with a time of 8.06.
 
Long Beach State track and field returns to action in two weeks for the MPSF Championships on February 18. The weekend-long meet will be held in Spokane, Wash.
