Long Beach State Splits Contests To Wrap Fresno State Invite Play

The Beach defeats No. 17 Indiana and falls to No. 8 Fresno State Sunday.
Fresno, Calif. — The Long Beach State women's water polo team wrapped up Fresno State Invite play splitting its contests against No. 17 Indiana and No. 8 Fresno State on Sunday.
In a back-and-forth battle with the Bulldogs there were nine ties as the Beach (7-7) had an answer for Fresno State in the first three periods.
FSU (8-7) pulled away in the final period after converting on a penalty shot and power play to extend its lead to 12-9 with 2:44 remaining.
The Beach battled but couldn't convert on three power plays late in the game.
Marilia Mimides converted on LBSU's last powerplay chance as time expired as the Beach lost 12-10.
In the loss, Mariah Walker and Orsi Hertzka each scored three goals to pace the team.
Against Indiana, the Hoosiers jumped out to a 1-0 lead early on, but the Beach responded with a 3-0 run and never looked back as the Beach led the rest of the way in the dominating win.
Hertzka led the way scoring four goals to lead the team in the win.
The Beach will be back in action next weekend when LBSU travels south to Irvine to compete in the Barbara Kalbus Invitational.
