LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State Men's Basketball Head Coach Dan Monson and his staff have announced that Varick Lewis has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Beach beginning next season as a true freshman.
Elk Grove, Calif. (Monterey Trail HS)
Varick Lewis is a prolific scorer from Elk Grove, Calif., who is currently rated as the No. 22 prospect in the state of California by ESPN. As a junior at Monterey Trail High School last season, Lewis averaged 23.0 points per game, including setting a career high of 47 points that season. An All-Metro League and All-CIF selection, Lewis ranked in the Top 10 in the section in scoring while adding over six rebounds, three assists and three steals per game after missing his sophomore year due to the pandemic.
Lewis burst onto the scene as a freshman, averaging 22.1 points and 6.3 rebounds per game, leading the San Juaquin Section as the top frosh scorer, scoring 30 or more on four occasions. Leading the league in scoring as a freshman, Lewis earned first-team All-Metro League honors as well as being chosen as All-City by the Sacramento Bee and All-State by Cal-Hi Sports. His efforts helped lead Monterey Trail to a playoff berth and an 18-11 overall record in his first season of high school action.
Monson on Lewis:
"We have worked hard the last two years to improve the culture of our program and Varick elevates our program as a player, student, and person. He is the kind of person you want to coach, and players want to play with. He is a scoring guard that can get buckets off the bounce, the catch, and create for others. We are excited to have him join our basketball family."
