Last Time Out:Â
Welcome Newcomers:Â
Long Beach State had six newcomers make their Beach tennis debut last weekend at the San Diego State Fall Classic. Including Freshmen Hana Becirovic Novak and Doga Akyurek, who competed in their first collegiate matches in their career. Â
Â
Momentum Builder:Â
The Beach ended the SDSU Fall Classic with strong momentum after winning six out of seven singles matches last Sunday. Overall, LBSU had an overall record of 15-8 in singles action. Head Coach Jenny Hilt-Costello was immensely proud of her team's progress and looks forward to this weekend's tournament. Â
Two Titles? No Problem:Â
Becirovic Novak started her collegiate career off strong by going undefeated in singles play at the San Diego State Fall Classic. The Freshman from Slovenia displayed patience and determination after losing her first set in the quarterfinal, 6-1. Unfazed in the moment, she played her game and won the next two sets to advance to the championship round and eventually capture her crown. Â
Junior Sarah Medik had an impressive weekend as well. Medik obtained her championship while going undefeated in tournament competition. In her championship finale, Medik battled through a three-set thriller to obtain her title. She executed veteran poise and is going into this weekend's tournament to continue her strong start.
