
Women’s Soccer Hosts Season Finale with Big West Regular Season Title Up for Grabs

The Beach has a chance to clinch the regular season crown and one-seed for next week’s Big West Championships.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – In arguably the biggest match of the season, Long Beach State will host UC Davis in the regular season finale on Thursday night. With their spot in The Big West Championships already secured, the Beach will be playing for the regular season crown and number one seed in next week's tournament.

ABOUT LAST WEEK
• Long Beach State had a tough pair of matches last week heading up the central coast. On Thursday, the played Cal Poly to a 1-1 draw before falling 2-1 to UC Santa Barbara on Sunday.
• Sara Ybarra played heroics against the Mustangs with an incredible strike from 35 yards out for the equalizing goal in the 50th minute. Zora Standifer was great in net, totaling eight saves on the night including one in the final seconds to make sure the match ended in a tie.
• The Beach was in a very early deficit against the Gauchos as a first minute PK gave UCSB a 1-0 lead right out the gate. A punch clear on a set piece in the 73rd minute found its way to Maddy Perez just inside the 18 for the equalizing goal. Unfortunately, the Gauchos responded three minutes later with the game-winner.
THE POSTSEASON SCENARIO
• Long Beach State currently sits in a tie with Cal Poly for first place in The Big West standings totaling 18 points. UC Davis and Cal State Fullerton are right behind them in a tie for third with 17 points.
• The scenario is simple for the Beach... a win guarantees them at least co-champions depending on what Poly does. A LBSU win and CP tie/loss makes the Beach outright regular season champs. No matter the result, Long Beach will be a top four seed in The Big West Championships.
HISTORIC NIGHT IN LA JOLLA
• The Beach traveled down I-5 on Thursday for a matchup with UC San Diego. In what ended up being one of the most lopsided games in program history, LBSU made history in a 6-1 victory to extend their unbeaten streak.
• To start, their six goals tied the program record for most goals in a single game. Four of the six goals came in the first half, the most first half goals in a game for the Beach ever. With six goals and four assists, the team combined for 16 assists which is tied for fifth most points in a single game.
• Individually, Lena Silano continued to make her own history registering the ninth hat trick in program history and first since 2015. Adding an assist to her stat line, her seven points tied the record for most individual points in LBSU history set by Kim Silos in 2005.
UNBEATEN STREAK
• Long Beach State suffered its first conference loss on Sunday snapping an eight-match unbeaten streak. It was the best start to a Big West season for the program since the 2008 season when they went 7-0-1 for the only undefeated Big West finish in program history.
• In general, the eight-match unbeaten streak tied the longest in Long Beach State history. This was the fourth occurence, with the last one being an eight-match win streak during the 2011 Elite 8 run.
CONFERENCE AND NATIONAL STAT RANKINGS
• Despite the one-point week, the Beach continues to lead The Big West in every offensive category and are among the best in the national rankings. With 32 assists, they rank 39th in the NCAA and 44th in assists per game. They also rank 51st in total points and 53rd in total goals.
• Individually, Lena Silano is still number one in the conference in virtually every category while ranking fourth in total goals, fifth in total points, sixth, goals per game, and seventh in points per game. Her three-game winners also ranks 55th nationally.
• New to the national rankings is sophomore goalkeeper Zora Standifer. She now owns a Big West leading 0.828 save percentage and ranks 55th in the nation.
ALTERING THE RECORD BOOKS
• Overall the last two seasons, senior Lena Silano has etched her name all over the Long Beach State record books and continues to change them as the season goes.
• In single-season history, her 2021 campaign ranks second for game-winners, third for shots,fifth for goals, and seventh for total points. Going into the regular season finale, she already sits in third in single-season goals and fifth in total points. She also ranks third in total shots as well. She is just two goals shy of tying the single-season program record.
• For her career, she is fifth in game-winners, sixth all-time in shots, seventh in points, and eighth in goals scored.
THE SILANO SHOW
• Lena Silano continues to lead the Beach this season and currently leads all of the Big West in points (34), goals (14), and tied for first in assists (6).
• The senior had recorded at least one point in seven consecutive matches, but was kept off the board by both Cal Poly and UCSB. She owns a point in 12 of the team's 17 matches this season.
• She is currently the active Big West career leader in points, goals, goals per game, and shots while also ranking among the leaders in shots shots per game, points per game, and total assists.
THE CHERRIE ON TOP
• Freshman Cherrie Cox has made an immediate impact in her debut season at the Beach, playing her way into the starting lineup and becoming one of the top scorers in the entire conference. She currently leads The Big West freshmen in total points, goals, and assists and even ranks in the top five of all Big West players in each category as well.
• Prior to Cal Poly, she had scored a goal in four consecutive matches from 10/2 to 10/16.
ANCHOR IN THE BACK
• Maddy Perez is the reigning Big West Freshman of the Year and has continued to be a dominant force in the backfield for the Beach again as a sophomore. Starting in every single match this season, she leads the team in minutes for the second consecutive season.
• Serving as one of the center backs and primary taker of free kicks and corners, she is fifth on the team in total points with two goals and three assists thus far. She is likely to be among the top vote getters for Big West Defensive Player of the Year.
ZORA'S ZONE
• Zora Standifer took over the starting goalkeeper role after Houston-Shepherd was unfortunately injury, and the sophomore has taken full advantage of her increased time in net.
• Totaling 848 minutes in net, she owns a Big West leading 0.828 save percentage and ranks third with a 1.061 goals against average. Her save percentage also ranks 55th in the entire nation.
THE MARKSMAN
• Sara Ybarra has scored two very impressive goals this season making her one of six players on the Beach to record multiple goals this year. And both of her scores have been insanely impressive shots with distance.
• Her first came against UCSD sending a dart from the corner of the box and over everyone to hit the far upper corner for the score. Her second came last week against Cal Poly on a strike from about 35 yards out and over the goalkeeper's head to force a tie with the Mustangs.
SUMMER TIME AT THE BEACH
• Sophomore Summer Laskey started the season as a spark plug off the bench, but has now found herself in the starting lineup over the last several matches. In the midst of a breakout season, she is tied for second on the team and tied for fourth in the Big West with five goals to go along with three assists for 13 total points.
• She is one of just eight players in the conference with two multiple-point games recording her first career brace against Fresno State and then registering a goal and an assist against CSU Bakersfield.
GET EVERYONE INVOLVED
• Last year, the Beach totaled 58 points (goals+assists) on the season and had just 10 different student-athletes record at least one point. This year, they have a league-leading 98 points which is 24 more than the next highest team. It is the sixth highest total in program history and have the opportunity for just the fifth time to reach triple digits.
• They also have a Big West leading 13 multi-point performances led by Silano's five and Cox's three. The two of them are the only two in the entire conference to have more than two such efforts.
SCOUTING THE AGGIES
• UC Davis enters the week on a hot streak, charging into the top four of The Big West standings. Winners of their last four matches, they are 8-5-4 overall and 5-2-2 in league play.
• This season, they are outscoring opponents 25-17 and own a 0.494 shot on goal percentage. They have six players with multiple goals led by Leslie Fregoso's six this season. She also leads the team with 14 points. In goal, Caeley Goldstein has played every minute this year, surrendering just one goal a game and owning a 0.773 save percentage.
• Historically, the Beach leads the all-time series 12-4-2 and have won six of the last eight. When playing at George Allen Field, LBSU is 6-2-1 against the Aggies.
