
Beach Tennis Heads to ITA Southwest Regionals at San Diego

LBSU will have eight athletes competing this weekend at the ITA Southwest Regionals.
SAN DIEGO, Calif. - LBSU women's tennis returns to action tomorrow at the ITA Southwest Regionals at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego, Calif. Head Coach Hilt-Costello announced she will have the entire roster competing this weekend. Doga Akyurek, Hana Becirovic Novak, Sheena Masuda, Peppi Ramstedt, Sarah Medik, Justine Dondonay, Mathilde Tranberg, and Rhona Cook will all be competing in both doubles and singles play. Â

Doubles action will start at 9 a.m. with the round of 64 on Thursday. Ramstedt/Medik will team up to take on Carolyna Fowler/Emily Fowler of UCI in the first round. The tandem of Ramstedt/Medik look to capture their third consecutive victory together. Sophomore Ramstedt currently obtains an undefeated doubles record of 5-0. Tranberg/Becirovic Novak will pair together and compete against Camila Garcia/Milena Gevorgyan of CSUF. Masuda/Cook will pair together for the sixth time this Fall and look to capture a victory against McKenna Koenig/Isabelle Lee of USC. Masuda and Cook just fell short in their last top doubles flight during the Beach Tennis Tournament however both appear determined to finish on top. Akyurek and Dondonay will also team up for the first time this fall. They will compete against SDSU's Andreea Velcea and Cecile Morin. Â

Singles action will follow shortly after the conclusion of doubles action with the round of 128. In singles play, Dondonay will begin her opening round against Kayla Wilkins of Arizona at 10 a.m. Masuda will face Natasha Puehse of GCU in her opening round, with her flight beginning at 10:00 a.m. Tranberg's opening flight will begin at 10 a.m. as well as she faces Natasha Hill of ASU, while Becirovic Novak will open against Jenna Schlatter of UCI at 10:30 a.m. Â
After not competing in a singles match two weeks ago, Cook will face Milena Gevorgyan of CSUF at 10:30 a.m. This will be Cooks first official singles match since injuring her abdomen.
Scorching from her last tournament performance, Freshman Akyurek will begin her opening round at 11:15 a.m. against Arizona's Reece Carter. Â
Lastly, Medik will compete against Santa Strombacha of GCU, while Ramstedt will face Natalie Duffy of CSUF at 11:15 a.m.

There will be 16 teams competing in this year's regional along with the Beach and hosts San Diego; Arizona, Arizona State, Cal State Fullerton, CSUN, Grand Canyon, Hawaii, Loyola Marymount, Pepperdine, San Diego State, UCLA, UC Irvine, UC San Diego, UC Santa Barbara and USC. Â
