Women’s Tennis With Five Wins In Day Two Of CSUN Fall Invitational

The Beach won both of their doubles matches Saturday.
NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – Long Beach State had a strong day of competition in the second of three days at the CSUN Fall Invitational, winning both of their doubles matches as well as the majority of their singles matches on Saturday.
The hidden dual format of the tournament continued, though the Beach entered the day with just five players as Pamela Badillo was competing with the ITA Conference Masters Championships and Cecilia Costa and Daria Malaescu were held out with injuries.
Facing Youngstown State in doubles, Long Beach State won both of their matches in dominant fashion. Senior Paulina Franco Martinessi and Thea Jagare rolled to a 6-1 win over Ovcharova/Telsynska, while Diana De Simone and Johanna Hiesmair also won 6-1 over Cedeno/Greyling.
In singles, the Beach matched up with San Jose State and took three of four matches. Jagare won in the top flight, 7-6, 6-3 over Soled Fayos Capilla, and De Simone won in the second 6-3, 6-1 over Duru Durgun. Franco Martinessi won in three sets, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4, while Hiesmair fell in three against Emma Fantousis 6-3, 2-6, 6-2. Daisy Carpenter, playing in her only match of the day was defeated by Tara Mihaljevic, 6-2, 6-4.
The fall season finishes with one final day of action at the CSUN Fall Invitational on Sunday, November 9.
