Cross Country Set to Race at UC Riverside Invitational

The Beach will compete in their second meet of the season.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Long Beach State cross country team is set to run their second meet of the season in Riverside at the 40th annual UCR Invitational on Saturday.

The women will compete in a 6k starting at 7:15 a.m. at the UCR Agricultural Operations Course while the men will run an 8k beginning at 7:50 a.m.
Michael Phillips led the way for the men's team in the 6K posting a time of 18:49.5 for fifth place while Allie Scimia paced the women's side in the 4K at 14:36.6, finishing tenth. It was the first race for each of their Long Beach State careers.
Also for the men, Raymon Ornelas also had a great first race of the season, finishing right behind Phillips with a time of 18:52.3 in sixth place. Ricky Villa crossed the line in 15th at 19:25.3.
Ryley Fick began her junior year with a twelfth place finish for the women posting a time of 14:43.4 as the second-fastest on the team. Anitha Graves was the next to finish for the Beach, posting a time of 14:57.
Long Beach State finished eighth their last time competing in the UCR Invitational. Among the returners, Ornelas and Maggie Bauer led their respective teams at the meet back in 2019.
