LONG BEACH, Calif. – Four current or former Long Beach State track and field athletes are set to compete in the United States Olympic Team Trials in Oregon beginning this week. Jason Smith, the lone current Beach athlete, will be joined by Riley Cooks, Colin Dunbar, and Jason Harrell at the Qualifiers.

Smith will be competing in two events, qualifying for both Long Jump and High Jump. The senior is coming off a pair of Second Team All-American selections at the NCAA Championships. His 7.96m (26-1.75) in the Long Jump tied for eighteenth-best among all U.S. entries while his 2.20m (7-2.5) was tied for nineteenth-best.

Cooks was an athlete for Long Beach State from 2015-17 and will be looking to qualify in the women's Heptathlon. A two-time All-American and the program record holder in the Heptathlon, her mark of 6,160 points is seventh-most among qualifiers.

Dunbar competed with the Beach from 2009-11 and will be competing in the men's Hammer at the team trials. A two-time All-American, his 72.53m (237-11.5) mark is eleventh among all the qualifiers.

Harris was with the Beach from 2013-14 and will be looking to qualify in the men's Discus this week. He ranks eighteenth among the qualifying marks at 60.98m (200-0.75).

A couple notables, Kemonie Briggs (2016-19) had a qualifying mark in Long Jump but was forced to pull out due to injury while former Director of Operations and daughter to Coach Sheffield, Jaide Stepter will be competing in the 400m in Oregon.

USA Track and Field will take the top three performers in each event at the team trials if they all reach the Olympic standard mark.

NBC Sports Group will be broadcasting all eight nights of the Olympic Qualifiers. The schedule can be found HERE.
