Jason Smith posted an eleventh-place finish in the High Jump to qualify for the High Jump finals on Sunday.

EUGENE, Ore. – Jason Smith continues to add to his tremendous 2021 list of accolades as he qualified for the High Jump final at the United States Olympic Team Trials on Friday. The top twelve advance to the finals on Sunday and the senior came out in eleventh in the qualifier round.

The bar started at 2.14m (7-0.25), which Smith cleared on his second attempt to move on. At 2.19m (7-2.25), he cleared the bar on his second jump securing his spot in the top twelve. The mark is just a quarter inch shy of his lifetime-best at 2.20m (7-2.5). He is sixth among all collegiate competitors at the team trials.

The High Jump was Smith's second event of the day, after starting with the Long Jump just two hours earlier. He launched himself 7.58m (24-10.5) on his first attempt before improving in his second jump, posting a 7.66m (25-1.75) mark. A fault on his third attempt ended his run in the event, giving him the 17th-place finish. He was eighth-best among the collegiate athletes competing at the Qualifiers.

He was one of just two athletes in the entire country to qualify for both the High Jump and Long Jump, and was the first to do so representing Long Beach State during the Sythe Era.

Smith will rest tomorrow before the High Jump finals at 1:15 p.m. Olympic Qualifier coverage will be live on NBC.
