Lathrope joins men's water polo coaching staff as an assistant coach.
Long Beach State announced that Bret Lathrope will be joining the Beach as part of the men's water polo coaching staff for the upcoming 2021 season.
"Bret is one of the best minds in water polo," coach Gavin Arroyo said. "He comes with great coaching experience and we are fortunate to have him at the Beach."
As the coach of MIT, Lathrope led the team to a No. 2 ranking in Division 3 and guided the team to its highest NWPC tournament finish.
Lathrope also serves as the technical director and coach at Los Angeles Premier Water Polo.
As an athlete, Lathrope played three years at UCLA from 2009-2011.
"I am beyond excited for this opportunity to work with the Long Beach State water polo team and coach Arroyo," Lathrope said. "Gavin has a wealth of knowledge and experience in water polo - both as an athlete and coach - and I look forward to learning from him. I've already seen how hard working and passionate the team is and I'm looking forward to seeing it come to life this season."
