Booth Wins Men’s Decathlon at Big West Multi-Event Championship

Junior transfer Aaron Booth became the first Long Beach State Decathlon champion since 2014.

IRVINE, Calif. – Long Beach State's Aaron Booth took home the Big West Decathlon Championship on Saturday. He is the first Long Beach State student-athlete to be crowned champion in the event since 2014.
The junior transfer totaled 7,520 points across all 11 events, the second-most in program history.
The New Zealand native posted top-three finishes in four of the five events today, including a first-place in the Javelin at 60.74m. He finished second in Pole Vault (4.41m), second in Discus (39.38), third in 110m Hurdles (15.64), and wrapped up the championship with a fourth-place finish (4:42.44) in the 1500m Run.
The LBSU women's duo was led by Sydney Barnes, who finished the Heptathlon in sixth place with a score of 4,598. The junior posted a pair of top-five finishes in Saturday's action and set a personal best in the 800m Run with a time of 2:37.69.
Justin Yaskowitz finished the Decathlon in eighth place with a total of 5,423 points. He posted four personal collegiate bests on the day with an 18.52 in the 110m Hurdles, 3.51m Pole Vault, 38.21m Javelin, and a 4:55.37 1500m Run.
Hailey Fune finished the Heptathlon in ninth place totaling 4,124 points. She had a nice day posting career-bests in the Long Jump (5.34m) and in the 800m Run (2:37.69).
Next on the schedule is the Big West Championships next week. UC Irvine will once again host with the action starting on Thursday.
