Dirtbags Close Out Regular Season Hosting UC Davis

Long Beach State will face UC Davis in the final weekend of the 2021 season.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State closes out the 2021 regular season by hosting UC Davis at Bohl Diamond at Blair Field.

LAST TIME OUT
• The Dirtbags won their third straight series beating rival Cal State Fullerton three times this past weekend. LBSU has not lost a weekend series since the first of the season.
• Johnathan Lavallee kept things rolling wtih six innings of one-run ball as the offense cruised to a 9-1 game one victory.
• Game two went to Fullerton, 11-3, as the Dirtbag offense was shutdown by Titan ace Tanner Bibee who came out of the bullpen in the first game of the doubleheader.
• Long Beach State bounced back in a big way in the second leg of the doubleheader with a big 14-4 victory. The offense scored in eight of the nine innings.
• The Sunday finale was a pitchers' dual with a 1-1 ballgame going into the ninth before the Dirtbags scored three runs in the top half en route to a 4-1 victory.
ABOUT THE DIRTBAGS
• The Dirtbags won their their third straight series and now sport a 24-15 overall record. They sit in third place in the Big West standings with a 22-14 mark in league play.
• Long Beach State's offense had a nice weekend at Fullerton bumping their average up to a .281 clip. The Dirtbags rank third in the conference with 38 home runs and a .442 slugging percentage.
• On the mound, the pitching staff continues to dominate. They lead the league with a .234 opponent average while their 3.98 ERA ranks fourth. In conference games only, they pace the Big West with a 3.49 ERA.
• Defensively, the Dirtbags ranks second in the conference with a .977 fielding percentage. Their 31 errors on the season is the fewest in the Big West.
SCOUTING THE AGGIES
• UC Davis enters the final weekend of the season at the bottom of the Big West standings with a 14-39 overall record, 8-28 in conference play.
• The Aggies are coming off a series loss to Cal Poly, dropping three of four games to the Mustangs.
• UCD ranks dead last in the Big West with a .246 average and .343 slugging percentage. Jalen Smith lead Davis in just about every offensive category and is the only hitter above .300 posting a .319 clip.
• The Aggie pitching staff is in the bottom of third of most of the statistical categories, including a 5.75 ERA and .286 opponent average. Jake Spillane has the bulk of the innings tossing 77.1 frames with a 5.24 ERA. Among their qualified pitchers, Kaden Riccomini has the lowest ERA at 4.74.
• The Dirtbags lead the all-time series at 30-16, but have lost five straight to the Aggies.
