Long Beach State Set For Track Events at UC Riverside, Host Field Events at Jack Rose Track

The outdoor track and field team splits up this week as the track athletes head to Riverside while the field events are hosted at the Jack Rose Track.

LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State splits this week as the track athletes head to UC Riverside on Thursday and Friday while the team hosts the field events at the Jack Rose Track on Friday and Saturday.
 
The distance events will take place Thursday night beginning at 6:00 p.m. in Riverside. The sprints will start Friday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
 
For the field events, the throws will happen at the Jack Rose Track on Friday at 10:00 a.m. with the jumps beginning at 11:00 a.m. Saturday.
 
The field athletes are coming off a dominant showing at the Matador Invitational where they picked up 11 wins in 16 events. Among those included sweeps in the Discus, Hammer, Javelin, and Shot Put.
 
For the fifth consecutive week, the men's Discus finished one-two headed up by Charlie Vernoy who notched a double victory. The senior picked up a lifetime-best in Shot Put for his second win.
 
The duo of Malia Talavou and Brianna Uipi claimed one-two finishes in both of their events while Clare Gibson jumped to a perfect 2-0 with her second consecutive win in the women's High Jump.
 
Crystal Washington improved on her personal best in the Triple Jump for the third straight week. She now ranks tied for third all-time in Long Beach State history.
 
On the track, Justin Watterson notched a double victory with wins in the 110 and 400 Hurdle events.
 
With just two weeks until the Big West Championships, the Beach has 43 performances ranked in the top ten of the conference, including the top two in men's High Jump (Jason Smith, Porte Joie Tshiaba), top two in men's Discus (Alec Jones, Charlie Vernoy), and top two in men's Hammer (Sebastian Coleman, Jones).
 
Long Beach State also has the number one Big West performances in men's Long Jump with Smith, and number one in women's Javelin with Hannah Katches.
