The Dirtbag offense was red hot on Thursday notching 19 hits en route to a 9-5 victory over the Tritons.
Chase Luttrell had a career-game going 4-for-5 with two doubles, two RBI, and three runs scored. It is the first four-hit game by a Dirtbag since May 4, 2019. It also extends the sophomore's hitting streak to nine straight games.
Connor Kokx went 3-for-5 finishing a triple shy of the cycle and scoring twice. It extends his reached base streak to 10 straight games, reaching base multiple times in nine of those 10 games.
Jonathon Long also had a career-game going 3-for-4 driving in a pair and finishing a triple shy of the cycle. Calvin Estrada notched his second three-hit game of the year going 3-for-4 with two RBI.
Johnathan Lavallee got the start in game one of the series and dealt, going a career-best six innings while striking out a career-high six Triton hitters. He allowed just one run on two hits.
The Dirtbags put a run on the board in the first three batters of the game as Charlie Loust tripled off the center field wall and came in to score on a Luttrell RBI single.
After a single and sac bunt started the third inning, Long notched his first career RBI with a double down the right field line. He would then come around to score a single into right field from Estrada.
Long would come back to the plate in the fifth and launch a solo shot off the scoreboard in right field for his first career home run and second extra-base hit of the night.
UC San Diego finally broke up Lavallee's shutout with a solo home run in the bottom half of the sixth, but the Dirtbags answered back immediately with an Estrada sac fly in the top of the seventh.
The Tritons plated another run in the bottom of the seventh, but once again Long Beach State had an answer. After a one-out double from Kokx, Loust would follow up with a double of his own to plate the sixth run of the game. Luttrell would make it three straight doubles, sending one down the right field line for the second run of the game. Toren Craig would then leg out a bunt single and an errant throw would bring in another LBSU run.
However, things would get interesting as UC San Diego rallied for three runs of their own in the bottom of the eighth, including a two-run home run off Matt Fields.
With two outs in the top of the ninth, Kokx would launch his first career home run for an extra insurance run. With a four-run lead, Devereaux Harrison had the game on lock striking out the side to close out the game in the bottom of the ninth securing the 9-5 victory.
The Dirtbags will look to keep it rolling against the Tritons in a doubleheader tomorrow. First pitch of game one scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
