Dirtbags Set for First Home Series at Bohl Diamond at Blair Field Hosting CSUN

Long Beach State will host their first series at Bohl Diamond at Blair Field this weekend as the Matadors come to town for a four-game series.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Dirtbags will play their second series of Big West play as CSUN comes to Long Beach for four games at Bohl Diamond at Blair Field. All four games will be streamed to BigWest.TV by Beach Vision.

LAST TIME OUT
• The Dirtbags had a rough opening weekend dropping their series at Hawaii after losing the first three games before winning on Sunday.
• Game one was lost on a walk-off as the Dirtbags made back-to-back errors with two outs allowing the Warriors to plate to runs and come out on top 3-2.
• It was a pitchers' duel in game two that went in favor of Hawaii as their starting pitcher threw 8.1 scoreless innings en route to a 1-0 win.
• Game three of the series had an increase in offense, but the Dirtbags couldn't overcome an early deficit falling 6-4.
• The Dirtbags bounced back taking the series finale as the offense showed up, posting eight runs on nine hits, including a pair of home runs, as they took down the Bows 8-5.
ABOUT THE DIRTBAGS
• LBSU breaking into the top 25 last season marked the first national ranking for the Dirtbags since ending the 2017 season ranked No. 8 by Baseball America.
• The Dirtbags were picked to finish second in the Big West Conference pre-season coaches' poll behind conference favorite UC Santa Barbara.
• Around the country, the Dirtbags were also picked to make the postseason by both D1Baseball.com and Baseball America.
• Long Beach State was forced to stay off the field during the pandemic, not getting a chance to play any fall ball and were not permitted for team practice until February 15. Because of that, they are one of two teams in the Big West that will play a 40-game conference-only schedule.
• The Dirtbags pitching staff pitched to a 2.41 team ERA against Hawaii despite the 1-3 record. They also notched 38 strikeouts in 33.2 innings pitched.
• The defense struggled in the first weekend of action, making six errors across the four games including back-to-back errors that allowed the Bows to walk-off in game one. Of the 15 runs Hawaii scored, only 9 were earned.
SCOUTING THE MATADORS
• CSUN, like the Dirtbags, got a late start to the 2021 season as their first games came this past weekend hosting Cal Poly.
• The Matadors went 1-3 in a very offensive series against the Mustangs. Overall, CSUN scored 28 times while allowing 39 to Cal Poly.
• The lone win came in a 12-10 slugfest in the series opener. CSUN lost the rest of the games, including a 12-1 run-rule loss in game three.
• As a team, CSUN is hitting .296 led by Kai Moody who posted a .571 average last weekend. Three different Matadors posted their first home runs of the season, including Jayson Newman who leads the team with 5 RBI.
• The Matador pitching staff struggled this weekend posting a 9.79 ERA while allowing a .304 opponent average. Only two of the 14 pitchers that saw time on the mound didn't allow a run.
• In the all-time matchup, the Dirtbags lead the series 84-64. LBSU won the last series back in 2019 with wins in games one and three.
