LONG BEACH, Calif. – Jasmine Hardy had a massive night, recording a double-double with 19 points and 14 rebounds to spearhead a strong defensive effort as Long Beach State downed UC Santa Barbara 61-49 in the first of two games against the Gauchos.
With the win, Long Beach State (10-1, 9-0) stayed unbeaten in Big West play, and captured the victory on the strength of an outstanding defensive performance. The Beach held UC Santa Barbara (2-10, 2-6 Big West) to 30.2 percent shooting on the night, including just a single field goal made in the first quarter.

The Gauchos would pull closer in the second quarter as Long Beach hit a cold streak, but LBSU maintained the lead at halftime 26-21, highlighting the defensive efforts.
Following an even third quarter, UC Santa Barbara would be able to pull within three points of Long Beach State in the fourth quarter, but a key post basket from Myrrah Joseph kept the edge for the Beach.
In the final minutes, Ma'Qhi Berry picked up a key steal, and Hardy helped close out the game, going 8-for-8 at the line in the last quarter as the Beach closed out the win, holding UCSB under 50 points for the evening.
