Beach Women’s Basketball Collects 10th Straight Victory

Total team effort saw four players score in double figures, Hardy post a double-double, and Jeskeova notch 13 boards

LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Long Beach State women's basketball team continued its roll through Big West Conference action on Saturday evening as the Beach earned their 10th-straight victory with a 70-55 win over UC Santa Barbara.
LBSU (11-1, 10-0 Big West) had only seven players see action in the game, but every single one scored and made a contribution on the court in the Beach's 15-point victory over UCSB (2-11, 2-7 Big West).
The Beach had four players score in double figures led by Justina King's 17-point performance. King also added a career-high nine assists to go along with six rebounds, and four steals. Jasmine Hardy, who had a career-night last night, came back and scored 15 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double.
Additionally, Patricia Chung came off the bench and tallied another double digit scoring game as the freshman finished with 13 points to go along with two rebounds, and two assists. Rounding out the Beach double-figure scorers was Ma'Qhi Berry who tallied 11 points on the evening, while adding three rebounds, and two assists.
Kristyna Jeskeova reached double-figures also, but in rebounding. She notched her sixth double digit rebounding game of the season as she turned in 13 boards, while adding a career-high six steals, to go along with five points, two blocks, and one assist.
Long Beach State took control of the game early using a 10-0 run to take a 13-6 lead over UC Santa Barbara early in the first quarter. The Beach led the rest of the game extending their lead to as many as 18 (35-17) in the first half before taking a 40-23 lead into the locker room at halftime.
The Beach didn't lose any momentum in the second half as they quickly pushed their lead up to 20 (43-23) after starting the third quarter with an and-one from King. The Gauchos whittled the Beach's lead down to 10 (47-37) after a triple from Taylor Mole, but LBSU went back up by 15 (58-43) to end the quarter.
Once again, LBSU extended its lead up to 20 (63-43) on a layup from Chung at 8:34, but this time the Gauchos were unable to cut the lead in half as they'd done in the previous quarter. The Beach went on to win the game, 70-55, after shooting 42.6 percent in the contest.
Long Beach State led UC Santa Barbara in rebounding (41-36), assists (16-13), and steals (11-4).
UC Santa Barbara was led by Mole's 20-point, 12-rebound showing. She also posted all four of the Gauchos blocks. Also reaching double digits for the Gauchos were Anya Choice (11 points) and Danae Miller (10 points).
LBSU will host UC Davis, the only other unbeaten team in the Big West, next weekend on Friday, Feb. 12 and Saturday, Feb. 13. Both games will tip-off at 4 p.m. and be broadcast on ESPN3.
